Matthew is running for Congress because Nevada’s 2nd District deserves someone who understands rural life.
In Matthew’s Own Words:
Growing up on a horse farm in rural Arkansas, the child of two mail carriers who taught me the value of service and community, I carried those lessons into founding my local Boy Scout troop and earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
At the University of Arkansas, I played trombone in the Razorback Marching Band, helped lead the service fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi while working as equipment manager for three years, raced concrete canoes with the ASCE team, and juggled studies in Civil Engineering and Hospitality and Restaurant Management while working my way through school. I came up in restaurant hospitality the hard way, starting as a volunteer dishwasher, doing every job in the house, and eventually running fine dining restaurants after apprenticing under my chef mentor.
Eventually, I packed up and moved to Nevada, turning my focus to political organizing, working on presidential and issue advocacy campaigns, fighting to stop the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, learning the legislative process over three Nevada legislative sessions, leading the Nevada State Democratic Party as Executive Director, and building rural organizing programs in red districts as National Field Director with Blue Wave America.
I’m running for Congress because this district deserves someone who understands rural life, has fought for healthcare and working families, and will put everyday Nevadans ahead of corporate interests and political games.
